Mes Parents Sont Magiques Encore Plus Magique

Okay, so picture this: I'm at a family dinner, right? Standard Sunday fare. My dad, mid-sentence about the price of gas (because, of course), suddenly stops, looks directly at my mom, and says, "Tu sais quoi, chérie? Je crois que j'ai oublié de nourrir les plantes." My mom, without missing a beat, replies, "Pas de problème, mon amour. J'ai pensé à toi et je l'ai fait ce matin. Et j'ai même arrosé ton bonsaï." The bonsaï, people! Who remembers to water a bonsaï?! That's when it hit me: My parents? Still magical. And maybe, even more magical than I thought.

Growing Up, My Parents Were Already Pretty Awesome

Let's be honest, every kid thinks their parents are special, at least for a little while. But mine really were. They weren’t the helicopter parent type, more like the "figure it out yourself, but we're here if you really need us" kind. They always encouraged my (sometimes questionable) artistic endeavors, never scoffed at my dreams of being a famous astronaut-slash-chef (hey, a girl can dream!), and somehow always knew when I was lying about finishing my homework. (Seriously, how did they DO that?)

Here's a quick list of things that made them already pretty magical back then:

• Always made amazing birthday cakes (even the year I insisted on a cake shaped like a giant brain…yikes).
• Could fix anything with duct tape and a little ingenuity. Seriously, anything.
• Were surprisingly good at hiding Christmas presents. (It took me years to find the stash in the attic).
• Always had time to listen, even when I was being a complete drama queen (sorry, Mom!).

But Now? It's Next Level Magic!

Now that I'm an adult, I've come to appreciate their magic on a whole new level. It's not about birthday cakes anymore (although Mom still makes a killer chocolate one). It's about the quiet wisdom, the unwavering support, and the fact that they still manage to surprise me with their awesomeness.

For instance:

• My dad, who swore he'd never understand social media, now sends me hilarious memes on Facebook. (I know, I know, Facebook... but still!)
• My mom, who always said she wasn't tech-savvy, is now a master of online research and can find the answer to any question in approximately 3.5 seconds.
• They’re both learning Spanish! Just because they wanted to. C'est magnifique, non?

The Real Magic: They Still Love Each Other Fiercely

This, I think, is the most magical thing of all. After all these years, they're still completely smitten with each other. They hold hands, they laugh together, they support each other's dreams, and they still look at each other with the same sparkle in their eyes that I'm sure they had when they first met. That’s the real deal.

And honestly, in a world that often feels chaotic and unpredictable, knowing that my parents are still out there, being their ridiculously amazing, incredibly loving selves, is a little bit of magic I can always count on.

So, to my parents: Merci, mille fois merci, for being you. You're the best. And I love you more than words can say. (And yes, Dad, I promise I'll visit more often.)
